Best Strategies to Manage Diabetes
My experience with managing Type 2 diabetes continues…
Diet
I knew I had to change my diet but didn’t have an idea of how to go about it. Would I have to give up my favorite foods? Would I have to eat food that tasted like cardboard? Would I have to undertake a strenuous exercise routine? I didn’t feel any better with the mountain of information out there that I stumbled upon which became rather overwhelming. I just needed something that distilled all the information I needed into an easy to follow, actionable plan.
Although diabetes is on the rise, most cases are preventable with healthy lifestyle changes and some can even be reversed. Taking steps to prevent and control diabetes doesn’t mean you’re living in deprivation, rather it means eating a tasty, balanced diet that will also boost your energy and improve your mood. It is not in all cases that you have to give up sweets entirely or resign yourself to a lifetime of bland food. With these tips, you should still take pleasure from your meals without feeling hungry or deprived just like I did.
Whether you’re trying to prevent or control diabetes, there is good news for you. You can make a big difference in your health with healthy lifestyle changes.
The most important thing you can do pertaining Type 2 diabetes is to lose weight. You don’t have to lose all your extra pounds to start reaping the benefits. Experts say that losing about 5% to 10% of your total weight can help you lower your blood sugar considerably, as well as lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
Losing weight and eating healthier can have a profound effect on your mood, energy levels, and sense of well-being. I can say this again and again. You have more control over your health, you should therefore take responsibility more than anyone else and get the best care and management of your Type 2 diabetes.
There are a lot of myths flying around town about Type 2 diabetes. You should be more informed than anyone else about this disease condition else you’ll only be dancing to whatever rhythm is played for you.
MYTH: You must avoid all forms of sugar at all costs.
Fact: you can enjoy your favorite treats as long as you plan properly and limit those hidden sugars in many packaged foods. Dessert doesn’t have to be off limits; as long as it’s a part of a healthy meal plan and combined with exercise.
MYTH: A high protein diet is best for you.
Fact: Studies have shown that eating too much protein, especially animal protein, may actually cause insulin resistance, a key factor in diabetes. A healthy diet includes protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Our bodies need all three to function properly. The key is a balanced diet not eating one more than the other.
MYTH: You have to cut way down on carbohydrates.
Fact: Just like I have said before, the key is to eat a balanced diet. The serving size and the type of carbohydrates you eat are especially important. Focus on whole grain carbohydrates since they are a good source of fiber and are digested slowly, keeping blood sugar levels more even.
MYTH: You need special diabetic meals because you’ll no longer be able to eat normally.
Fact: The principles of healthy eating are the same whether you’re trying to prevent or control diabetes. Expensive diabetic foods are normal foods we eat but in moderate, balanced form. You can still eat with your family and friends if you eat in moderation.
In summary, I discovered the truth about our medical system and decided to be my own doctor and dietitian. According to Dr. Julian Whitaker: “Hundreds of clinical trials demonstrate that diabetes can be reversed…not with drugs but with simple, inexpensive lifestyle measures.” I now have the opportunity to live a healthy life free from expensive meds by simply changing the things I eat. Of course I didn’t expect any less from health practitioners who were more interested in dosing me with drugs. Treating the symptoms is much more profitable for the billion dollar drug companies than curing the cause.
I have found out that simple dietary and lifestyle changes work much better than drugs and surgery and without the side-effects. By eliminating harmful oils, fats and foods from your diet you can reverse diabetes 100% naturally. There is no reason to continue using drugs and pills for the rest of your life.
Hippocrates, the great and renowned father of medicine, in his own experience and wisdom says, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” It simply tells us that no matter what we synthesize as drugs, they cannot take the place of a healthy food. Most of these drugs are synthesized from crude plant extracts. However, having synthesized and packaged them in the laboratory some chemical components have been added such as excipients, sweeteners, flavorings and at such they are no longer natural.
For me, nothing can take the place of nutrition in diabetes management; not metformin, not any other drug. A healthy natural diet answers the question of how do I live past Type 2 diabetes. Practice nutrition therapy i.e. simply change the things you eat rather than the continued use of drugs, pills and surgery.
This is my story.
You have heard it from the horses’ mouth. I had Type 2 diabetes and I lived through it by nutrition. Many of you reading through this may also be in the same shoes I was when I was searching to find a lasting solution to this condition. It’s not too late to begin your nutrition therapy and healthy lifestyle. It’s not even as expensive as the drugs. Type 2 diabetes doesn’t have to be a life sentence. By simply eating right and following a well-researched plan, it is possible to reduce or eliminate your dependence on prescription drugs.
